As a photographer and lover of music I try to support local artists this is where our future super stars are going to come from in the future. We are blessed with so many talented young artists in Sydney. These photos were taken at the Fishers Ghost Gig at Campbelltown in November, 2016. I had already photographed a few of the artist before and was well aware of their talent.
Here are a few of my shots from the day.

Rackett are one of my favourite bands to photograph and listen too. They put on a dynamic gig that is full of energy which the crowd thrives on. As soon as I saw that they were supporting DZ Deathrays I started the process of gaining a media pass. Luckily Rackett came to the assistance and gained access for me. Here are a few of the shots taken on the night.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I arrived early at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville to shoot a gig for Amnplify as I had not previously heard of the DZ Deathrays. It was also a school night and I was surprised that there were so many teenagers waiting at the entrance.
DZ Deathrays hail from Melbourne and they hit the stage with a blast of laser lights and smoke. Whilst great for the audience who had waited all night to see them, it made things difficult for the photographers in the pit. One minute the stage was in complete darkness and then wham, the lasers shot out a bright stream of light again!
The crowd of fans were not disappointed as the DZ Deathrays put on an electrifying performance.

I was lucky to chance upon a gig of the Rackett during this year’s King Street Crawl. I was very impressed with what I saw and heard so I kept an eye out for another Rackett gig. I didn’t have long to wait until I spotted this gig at the Imperial being advertised
The Imperial Hotel offers a few different perspectives to photograph bands as there is a raised platform behind the stage and also on each side.
Shot for Amnplify.

Father’s day this year was spent with my son Daniel wandering around listening to bands during the King Street Crawl at Newtown. It was my first experience of the King Street Crawl and I enjoyed hearing some new music. I ended up photographing a few bands at the various venues that we visited.

Camden put on a great concert which displayed the many and varied talented artist in the area. I was granted access to photograph the concert on behalf of Amnplify.
The headline act was Pseudo Echo and they were supported by a lot of local performers throughout the day.
Here are a few photos from the day.

Having heard that one of my favourite artists, Aimee Francis was heading to Sydney for gig at the Brighton Up Bar I couldn’t miss the opportunity to head into Darlinghurst to catch up with her.
There were two other acts performing on the night and one of the was Ex-Cassette. They were fantastic and I keep playing their latest single, Digital Heart on my Ipod, I only wish that they had more music that I could listen too. Here are a few photos from the night.
I was asked by a fellow photographer and friend to photograph this Melbourne based band on their visit to Sydney. I’m glad that I did as it was great music and I enjoyed the night. The Acolyte are a progressive rock/alternative band and the members are Morgan-Leigh Brown – Vocals, Frank Perna – Guitar, Bcg vocals Jason Grondman – Bass, Bcg vocals Chris Cameron – Drums, Percussion.
You can follow them on their Facebook page Acolyte
I was asked by a fellow photographer from Melbourne if I would like to photograph Acolyte, a progressive rock band that she knew from her home town while they were visiting Sydney on a quick tour. I was glad that I agreed to do the shoot for Amnplify as there were 5 bands on the bill and some great music. The gig was at the Bald Faced Stag in Sydney. Here are a few of the photos that I took:
A great afternoon and evening of French Music and cuisine. Well worth attending when they return in 2017.
The music was very entertaining and the artists were Hindi Zahra, Brigitte (Sylvie Hoarau and Aurelie Saada), Lou Doillon and Soviet Suprem (Erwan Seguillon and Toma Feterman). I don’t speak french and even though some of the majority of the songs were sung in french I still enjoyed them, good music is good music in any language.
Thanks to Cartell Music and Amnplify for allowing me to shoot the event.
Aimee Francis single launch “Bonnie & Clyde” at the Lazybones Lounge, Marrickville 7.1.16 supported by James Van Cooper, The Scram, Youthfire and Stellar Addiction.
If you are looking for great night out with music and dancing then make sure you catch one of the gigs by the Toxic Dolls. Plenty of covers of all your favourites from the 80’s through to the present. These photos were taken at Campbelltown RSL in January, 2016. Like their Facebook Page Toxic Dolls Rock to keep up to date with future gigs.
It really was a case of Holly Who? for me when I heard that they were performing on the bill at Frankie’s Pizza last Sunday night but not any more. Holly Who are a Newcastle band with a very entertaining show and an infectious style of music. I don’t think that there is anything that they couldn’t perform! As a photographer I love to shoot a band that enjoys performing so much that it is evident to everyone watching them as it is infectious. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future gigs to attend.
The lighting was a challenge so the only option was to process the photos as black & white but I think that it works.
After photographing all the heats for Macarthur Music on a Mission‘s Battle of the Bands and seeing how much talent there is the Macarthur area I was looking forward to the final.
The final was held at Campbelltown RSL last Friday night and was split into two divisions, three metal bands and three rock bands with winners chosen from each category.
The 3 rock bands that made it through to the final were The Dirty Reeds, Handheld Human and Trash Jacket. All three bands put on a great performance and the judges had a difficult decision to make. The winners on the night were The Dirty Reeds.
Not only did the Battle of the Bands highlight the talented musicians in the Macarthur area it also raised funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The She Who Rocks Tour came to Waves Nightclub at Wollongong last Friday night and the crowd were treated a great night of rock music. Headed by Baby Animals and The Superjesus and supported by Bonney Read and The Art on the night.
Below are a few images that I shot of Suze Dimarchi and Baby Animals.
