Melanie Dyer launched her debut album Fresh at the Leadbelly in Newtown. The venue was packed with fans, friends and family who were treated to a fantastic night of music. Melanie was also supported by the talented Josh Needs.

Thanks to Amnplify I was able to photograph American singer Kehlani at the Enmore Theatre in Newtown on her Sweet Sexy Savage tour. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to photograph the support act and was limited to the first 3 songs of Kehlani’s set however th at was enough time to capture these photos

After hearing “Cocoon” by Catfish and the Bottlemen I couldn’t wait to see them perform live at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion . They put on a great performance and were supported by the very talented Maddy Jane. The gig was shot for Amnplify.

I grew up listening to Icehouse (even before they were called Icehouse!) and couldn’t wait to photograph them on their 40 year anniversary tour. They performed hit after hit and you can understand why they have been around so long.

Having attended the Zac Brown concert at the ICC and witnessed the Pierce brothers supporting them I couldn’t wait to photograph one of their gigs. As they were heading to Sydney soon I applied through Amnplify to photograph the gig and was successful. Here are a few images from the night:

Rackett really are a band on the way up and at the rate that they are going they will soon be at the top. Their live performances are something to be seen and I don’t how they manage to generate so much energy on stage. Their music is fantastic and they quickly garnish the attention of everyone in the venue.
I have been lucky enough to photograph them four times and each time that I have seen them the improvement is noticeable.
The Brighton Up Bar in Oxford Street Sydney was the location for the launch of new single “Ready or Not” and I was there to photograph the performance.

Firefly Photos have been doing a bit of experimenting with light painting. There may be an opportunity to combine it later with some portraits or band shoots.
Light painting involves long exposures in dark locations and capturing the light created by the photography using a variety of tools including pixel sticks,torches, LED lights and El Wire.

Hayley Jensen performed at the Leadbelly in Newtown last weekend to launch her album Past Tense and Present Peace and was supported by Matt Cornell and Emily Markham. There was also a guest appearance by Jay Seeney of the Jay Seeney Band. It was a great night of music that was well supported by her fans.

I was lucky enough to catch a gig of the Preatures before they headed overseas to record some new music. Initially I thought that I was going to be the only photographer in what was a very narrow pit but before too long it started to fill! The Preatures put on an awesome performance and is up there with one of the best that I have seen in a long time.
They were supported by Ngaiire.

The So Frenchy So Chic Music Festival has quickly become a highlight of my music calendar. I apply to photography the festival without knowing anything about the artists and each time I walk away thoroughly impressed with the music and the performances!
This year I was treated to music from Sophie Maurin, Bertrand Belin, The Limiñanas, Deluxe and Nouvelle Vague. It doesn’t matter what language is sung, if it’s great music you will enjoy it and I certainly did enjoy it!

I had heard a lot about Ricki-Lee over the years since she was a contestant on the Voice but had never seen her perform or really listened to her music. When I heard that she was going to perform at the Australia Day celebrations at Bella Vista Farm I took the opportunity to see first hand why her popularity had soared.
I must say that I was glad that I braved the heat of another hot Australia Day to photograph her performance as she is quite the entertainer. Great music, dancers and stage lighting really kept the crowd (and myself) entertained. Ricki-Lee really knows how to engage with the audience and entertain.

Lara Parker-Kent with Michael Kelly on guitar performed at the Australia Day celebrations at Bella Vista Farm. I first heard Lara sing about 13 years ago at a fundraiser and was amazed at her voice even then. She has since gone on to perform on live television as a contestant on The Voice and is now making a name for herself as a wedding singer. Along with Michael Kelly they are a very talented duo and are available for corporate functions, parties and weddings.

As a photographer and lover of music I try to support local artists this is where our future super stars are going to come from in the future.
