Melbourne

I headed down to Melbourne recently to attend the Australia v NZ Olympic Qualifier Basketball Match at Rod Laver Arena. As I hadn’t visited Melbourne on a personal trip before I was looking forward to photographing a few new locations.

A trip to Melbourne needs to include a few key locations including St Kilda Pier, Flinders Street, Princes Pier and Brighton Beach Huts.

Other places of interest included the Shot Clock Tower and the Yarra River.

A visit to Melbourne would not be complete without walking through the numerous lanes and seeing the street art.

I am not sure who the artists were for the above images but they are definitely talented.

The Bellrays+Dallas Frasca+Bandintexas @ Newtown Social Club 9.8.15

Heading into Newtown on Sunday night to shoot a gig was quite unusual for me but I was glad that I did as I was fortunate to see 3 great bands.  The lighting wasn’t the best and at times it was a struggle to get good exposures but the venue did have a great atmosphere.

First up on the night was the energetic punk/rock band Bandintexas which is comprised of Kelly Jeanious on vocals, Sophie Bollen on guitar and vocals, Jackie Latimore on bass and Lauren Allison on drums.  I really liked their music and couldn’t resist buying 2 CD’s after their set.  I look forward to catching more gigs in the future.

Next up was Dallas Frasca a Melbourne band that that I had heard a lot of good things about and they lived up to their reputation.  Dallas Frasca is made up of Dallas Frasca on vocals & guitar, Jeff Curran on guitar and Josh Eales on drums.

Dallas loved to get the crowd involved and even sung a song or two sitting with the audience!

It’s getting expensive shooting gigs as I couldn’t resist buying two of their CD’s too!

The headline act were The Bellrays from the USA with Lisa Kekaula on vocals and Robert Vennum on guitar.  For some reason the light wasn’t as good for the headline act and at times the stage was in complete darkness.  This stopped as soon as Lisa Kekaula said a few words to the lighting technician!

By this stage I had run out of cash so I didn’t buy any CD’s but they are worth buying. Great tight band producing awesome sounds!

Battle of the Bands -Heat 4

Heat 4 of Macarthur on a Mission’s Battle of the Bands showcased 4 great bands plus the Guitar World City Arcade Band.

The competitors for the night were Three Strikes, Ready for the Fall, Heart of Mind and 1919.  It’s amazing how much local musical talent there is just looking for venues to perform in.

The judges couldn’t split Three Strikes and Heart of Mind and they were named as joint winners of the heat.
